BENIGN PIGMENTED LESIONS
Benign pigmented lesions are extremely common across all age groups. Sun exposure, hormonal changes, and natural ageing can lead to the development of age spots, freckles, and other brown marks that create uneven skin tone and contribute to an aged appearance. These lesions vary widely in their clinical and histological characteristics and include conditions such as melanocytic naevi (moles), hyperpigmentation, dyschromia, melasma, solar lentigines (age spots), post‑inflammatory pigmentation, and ephelides (freckles).
Advances in non‑invasive aesthetic laser technology now allow these concerns to be treated safely and effectively. Lasers target melanin by delivering light at specific wavelengths, which is absorbed by the pigment and breaks it down. The body then clears the damaged pigment naturally through the lymphatic system. Because melanin absorbs a broad spectrum of light, a variety of wavelengths can be used to treat different types and depths of pigmented lesions.
